Cohort Recruitment
We established a monthly surveillance in Eastern Denmark of reimbursement to general practitioners for the obligatory first pregnancy visit. This allowed us to identify all pregnant women during 2nd trimester. We mailed approx 2.000 invitations per month and received positive response from many more than we could accommodate.
Recruitment of pregnant women was initiated early 2009 and ended July 2010 with 744 children enrolled. As of April 2011 699 of these children are still active participants.
Recruitment was conducted at two collaborating sites and was split 3:1 between the COPSAC clinic at Gentofte Hospital and a COPSAC satellite unit at Naestved Hospital comprising three PhD students, two research nurses and a medical student.
The personnel exchange regularly between these two clinics to assure consistency of procedures.
