Fecal Bacteria
Fecal samples were collected at age 1 month and 1 year.
Conventional cultures were made with identification of aerobic, anerobic and yeast/fungi species. Additionally, DNA was isolated for PCR-Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE).
DGGE is based on the principle that increasing denaturant concentration will melt double-stranded DNA in distinct domains. When the melting temperature of the lowest domain is reached, the DNA will partially melt, creating branched molecules with reduced mobility in a polyacrylamide gel visible as single size bands.
